Over 50 hours in the working week for British bosses

Latest research conducted by the Bank of Scotland Business Banking shows that small business owners in the country put in an average working week of 51.5 hours. This figure is an increase of almost four hours a week from the previous year’s results.

In total the research shows small business bosses across Britain are putting in an additional 31.2 million hours per week. The research has also proven that over 7 out of 10 managers take less than 20 days holiday each year.

According to a recent study by the Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp) more than two-thirds of surveyed organizations are not immediately prepared to fill a sudden leadership vacancy.

Of the 275 organisations surveyed less than half (45%)* reported they have a formal succession plan in place.

Larger companies are paying greater attention to succession planning with 66%* of organizations with more than 10,000 employees saying they are prepared to immediately fill a leadership role and 69%* conduct regular talent reviews.

UK Online Shopping up 38% Despite Credit Crunch

New figures show that UK shoppers spent over £26.5 billion online in the first six months of 2008 despite the credit crunch this is up 38% on the £19.2 billion recorded for the first half of 2007*
