London Has A Warning To Keep Up With Global Rivals
Tuesday, December 9th, 2008A recent survey conducted by Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and KPMG reveals that only one in ten businesses think London’s status as a world city will grow over the next five years. While a third of Businesses surveyed fear the capital’s standing will shrink.
106 businesses took part in the survey representing almost half a million employees in the UK.
77% of bosses described London as a good place to do business compared to 95% a year ago and 32% now see London’s significance as a global city slipping over the next five years, compared with just 13% two years ago.
The poll of senior executives in the biannual survey also showed 81% expect their sales and revenue growth to suffer in the months ahead
London is also facing a skills shortage as 79% of firms struggle to find people with specific technical skills and 41% cited they have worries about managerial skills.
