There was a surge in UK web traffic to online retail sites at the end of Christmas shopping period eek, according recent figures released by Hitwise the online research company.

According to the figues the following increases have been seen compared to the equivalent day in 2007:

Thursday, 18 December: +1.2%,
Friday, 19 December: +2.6%
Saturday, 20 December: +1.4%
Sunday 21 December: +3.9%

Hitwise has also revealed that the high street retailers that have an online presence are the main beneficiaries with 2.7% increase in traffic on Saturday and a 5.9% increase on Sunday.
