Employers Must Back Skills Training

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

It has been claimed companies in the UK must offer skills training to help the country remain competitive on the global stage.

How do you view the skills training you offer to your staff? Are your sales people trained with the latest sales intelligence and do they regularly attend sales training courses?

All major employers in the UK must give their support to skills training, according to one expert.

John Connolly, a senior partner and chief executive at financial services firm Deloitte, has stated that urgent action is needed to tackle the shortage of “employability skills”.

In turn, this will be vital to ensuring that UK businesses are able to remain competitive on the global stage, he stated.

Mr Connolly said: “In the current economic climate, the skills of the UK workforce will be critical to business survival and growth.”

Although many firms are facing difficult decisions when it comes to employment, they still want to make sure their workforce is equipped with the skills needed to “compete in more difficult markets”, he added.

Training ‘vital during the downturn’

Wednesday, March 18th, 2009

Are you questioning if you need to invest in training courses and sales training during the economic downturn?

Businesses should invest in the skills of their employees as the recession bites, according to one expert. Mark Cahill, managing director of recruitment agency Manpower UK, has said the skills of workers will always be a firm’s biggest asset and action must be taken to avoid a talent drain.

“Employers should take the opportunity now to re-skill and retrain workers so they are absolutely best placed for the upturn when it comes,” he said.

Mr Cahill’s comments come as Manpower’s quarterly Employment Survey revealed that just five per cent of firms expect to increase their headcount in the next three months. A further 11 per cent expect to cut jobs while 81 per cent are not planning to change staffing levels over the same period.

Research conducted by Train To Gain during 2008 has proven that “Employers who don’t train are 2.5 times more likely to fail than those who do”

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

Picking a sales training company that can deliver training that is sustainable, measurable and practical is essential if you are to get a return on your training investment.

More important than price though we will work with you to make sure our training fits your specific needs and requirements. The importance of the right training is not something that is only recognised by Advance Your Sales.

Chris Humphries, CEO of the UK Commission for Employment and Skills has told the government that If investment in skills today does not match the UK’s future needs, we could be about to make the same recession mistakes as Labour did in the 1970s and the Conservatives in the 1990s.

Investing in the right skills now is the best way to ensure that 2010 onwards isn’t just a tough climb out of recession but a real opportunity for a profitable and successful future - and could be the difference between a long or a short recession.
